The Abyss

The AbyssReel Snapshot: Innovative, deep-ocean sci-fi action/thriller about submarine encountering undersea aliens. With its eye-popping effects, ever-increasing tension, this appeals to fans of mainstream action films and those seeking a more thought-provoking adventure.

Sean's Snapshot: No movie ever made captures the sense of what it likes to live and work underwater like this one. Make sure you get the Director's Cut with the tidal wave at the end because the movie doesn't make much sense without it.

2010: A Space Odyssey

2010: The Year We Make ContactReel Snapshot: Sequel to popular sci-fi classic "2001" follows the adventures of a Russian-American space craft. Though not as well-received as its predecessor, it still holds appeal for futuristic thriller fans, series buffs.

Sean's Snapshot: Not as cerebral as 2001, but certainly gives you more to think about than many modern sci-fi movies. This one has some great scenes with dolphins in the beginning. It also makes a big deal (without giving away the story) out of Europa, one of the the moons of Jupiter where scientists believe that an ocean and possibly extraterrestrial life exists!
