The Daily Dope

1.19.00 13:15 If you send me e-mail and do not get a response within 24 hours, then something is wrong with your e-mail address. Please re-send or call me so that we can get this e-mail thing working.

Don't forget to subscribe to our mailing list. I will be sending important announcements via the mailing list starting next week. Send a blank e-mail, no message, no subject, to students@oceansonline.com. You will get an automated response within a half hour. If not, then you need to make sure your message is blank (no signatures or anything). Check the address and try again.

A significant number of you have indicated that you want to purchase the lecture notes. The first 100 copies are now being printed. They will be available from me directly at a cost of $15 each or $20 if you want it mailed. If you want me to mail you a copy, please fill out the form here and send me a check for $20, which includes shipping and handling costs. The first copies will be available next Wednesday. If you have not indicated a desire to purchase a copy of my text, then please send me an e-mail.

1.17.00 19:48 Welcome! Please start by reading this entire page and by browsing all of the links on the home page starting with the welcome message. Everything you need to know is linked on the course syllabus. That page is your guide to the entire course.

If you have tried to send me e-mail and not received a response, then there is something wrong at your end. Please call me so we can clear it up. If you use AOL, make sure I am not blocked from sending you e-mail. Check the help files or call an AOL technician if you don't know what blocking means.

The first practice exam is online at http://motted.hawaii.edu/~quizuser/quizzes/chamberlin/pex1htm.html You will need a password to access this practice exam. Please read the all the links in the first section of the course syllabus for information on how to obtain a password.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to an awesome semester.

1.09.00 08:24 I've just completed a 411-page textbook for this course which you may purchase through the bookstore on this web site. The textbook contains the most up-to-date notes, a table of contents and a highly useful index (something students have been requesting for quite some time). Over the next few weeks, I will be updating the lecture notes on the web site to include the changes I've made in the textbook. You are always welcome to print the lecture notes from the web site if you wish to have a printed copy for times when you are not near a computer. Just be aware that it takes time to print 400+ pages (which turns out to be more pages when printed from the web site) and you will not have a table of contents or an index. If enough people wish to purchase the comb-bound printed version of my textbook, the costs of copying it can be reduced. At the moment, the cost will be from $15-20 per copy. Shipping runs an extra $5 if you want me to mail it to you. Please send me an e-mail if you are interested. There's no obligation to buy; I'm just trying to get an idea of how many students are interested. Thanks.

1.06.00 12:30 Students wishing to add my online or lecture course may pick up a signed add slip from my bulletin board outside room 419-025 anytime during the first three days of classes, i.e. from January 19-21. After Friday, January 21, I will not add any more students.

1.02.00 17:06 Happy New Year! The Remarkable Ocean World has transformed for the Year 2000. Please make sure you update all of your bookmarks. Also, please note that some of the materials and links are not yet available. I reserve the right to change course guidelines and materials until the start of school on January 19, 2000. Please e-mail me if you have any questions, drc@oceansonline.com.
