If we are wise we will keep our eyes on the depths of the ocean as well as on the heavens, and seek answers in each to the mysteries of the other. One of the momentous developments of twentieth-century science is the realization that there is a fundamental unity to the whole universe. We cannot understand the moon without understanding the earth, for land and sea, earth and star, planet and sun are all pieces of one vast and unified whole.
